Episode 1: Learning from others (South Korea)

สวัสดีค๊าทุกคน

It has been a month that I didn't update  my blog as I had to figure out my busy schedule such as studying, teaching, working, and traveling. The last one doesn't seem so well.
เตื้องไม่ได้อัพเดทบล็อคมาเป็นเดือน เพราะต้องจัดการกับตารางยุ่งๆ ทั้งเรียน ทั้งสอน ทั้งทำงาน และก็เดินทาง อันสุดท้ายก็ไม่ใช่ข้ออ้างที่ดีเท่าไหนเนอะ 

I had a chance to go to South Korea with my parents on December 29, 2012 - January 2, 2013. It was awesome! After that, I went to Hong Kong and Shenzhen with my boyfriend and his family on January 5-10, 2013. And tomorrow, I'm going to Japan for a field trip with Mahidol University.
เตื้องได้มีโอกาสไปเกาหลีใต้กับพ่อแม่เมื่อวันที่ 29 ธันวา 2555 - 2 มกรา 2556 สนุกม๊ากกก แล้วก้อไปฮ่องกงกับเซินเจิ้นเมื่อวันที่ 5-10 มกรา 2556 กับแฟนและก็ครอบครัวแฟน และพรุ่งนี้ก็จะไปญี่ปุ่นไปดูงานกับมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล

It's like four trips in a month but then the rest of the year I will have to work as usual. Life must go on! I cannot keep traveling like this for the whole year.
ก็เหมือนกับว่าจะเป็น เที่ยว 4 ที่ในเดือนเดียว แต่ก็นะ ส่วนที่เหลือของปีก็คงต้องกลับมาทำงานเหมือนเดิม ชีวิตยังต้องดำเนินต่อไป จะให้เที่ยวตลอดปีก็ไม่ไหวเนอะ

I then got the idea of picking small mistakes from people in those countries I had just visited this month. It doesn't mean that I want to make fun of them but I would love to share those mistakes and collect them so that you won't make the same mistake. Don't get me wrong!
เตื้องก็เลยมีความคิดว่าจะหยิบจับ ข้อผิดพลาดเล็กๆน้อยๆจากแต่ละประเทศที่เตื้องไปมาในเดือนนี้เนี่ยแหละคะ มาเรียนกัน แต่ไม่ได้เอามาพูดให้ตลกไปงั้นๆนะคะ แต่จะนำข้อผิดพลาดมาแก้ไขให้ถูกต้อง จะได้ไม่ใช้มันผิดพลาดนะคะ อย่าเพิ่งเข้าใจผิดกันนะ

Alright! One that I pick from South Korea is "Keep to Clean the Room"
เอาละ มาเริ่มกันเลยดีกว่านะคะ เริ่มจากที่ไปเอามาจากเกาหลีใต้ "Keep to Clean the Room"

Once I opened the door to my hotel room, I saw the sign, "Take off your shoes" and below said "Keep to clean the room".
พอเตื้องเปิดประตูห้องที่โรงแรม ก็จะเจอป้ายเขียนว่า Take of your shoes = กรุณาถอดรองเท้า และพอมองลงมานิดนึง ก็จะเขียนว่า "Keep to Clean the Room".

In this case, I suppose they meant "Keep the Room Clean".
ในกรณีนี้ เตื้องว่าเค้าน่าจะตั้งใจบอกว่า "Keep the Room Clean" นะคะ

Next question is that "What's wrong with it?"
คำถามต่อไปก็คือ แล้วมันผิดยังไง?

According to Cambridge Dictionary, there are many meanings of "Keep". However, I have chosen only the one that is meant to be the meaning in "Keep the Room Clean".
ถ้าดูตาม Cambridge Dictionary ก็จะเห็นว่า "keep" เนี่ย มีความหมายมากมาย อย่างไรก็ตาม เตื้องขอเลือกเอามาพูดเฉพาะอันที่มันตรงกับข้อความนี้นะคะ "Keep the Roon Clean" หรือ โปรดรักษาความสะอาดนี่แหละคะ

KEEP (V.) = to (cause to) stay in a particular place or condition. 

1. Keep + Adjective

Examples:
- I wish you would keep quiet.
ฉันหวังว่าคุณจะเงียบบ้าง
- I like to keep busy.
ฉันชอบที่จะมีอะไรทำตลอดเวลา
- Keep left!
กรุณาชิดซ้าย

2. Keep + Object + Adjective

Examples:
- Close the door to keep the room warm.
กรุณาปิดประตูเพื่อให้ห้องอบอุ่น (สำหรับประเทศที่อากาศหนาว)
- Take off your shoes to keep the room clean.
กรุณาถอดรองเท้าเพื่อรักษาความสะอาด (ของห้อง)

Remember!

"Keep the Room Clean" means you would like to have the room clean at all time.
"Keep the Room Clean" ความหมายก็คือ กรุณารักษาความสะอาด

But

"Keep (something) to Clean the Room" means that you would like to keep something out of your way in order to make it easy for you to do a housekeeping.
ความหมายสำหรับ "Keep (something) to Clean the Room" ก็คือ กรุณาเก็บ (บางอย่าง) เพื่อทำความสะอาด

Once the positions change, the meanings are also changed!
เมื่อตำแหน่งเปลี่ยน ความหมายก็ถูกเปลี่ยนตามไปด้วยนะคะ
