Episode 3: Learning from others (China)

The last two articles were about learning English from my trips to South Korea and Hong Kong. For South Korea, we learnt how to put the word in the right position on "Keep" as a verb. And we learnt to avoid impolite word from Hong Kong.
สองบทความที่แล้วเตื้องได้พูดถึงเรื่องการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษจากเดินทางของเตื้องที่ประเทศเกาหลีใต้ และฮ่องกงไปแล้วนะคะ ที่เกาหลีใต้ เราก็ได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับคำว่าการวางคำให้ถูกตำแหน่งของกิริยา "Keep" และเราเรียนรู้ที่จะหลีกเลี่ยงคำไม่สุภาพจากฮ่องกงคะ

Now, I will move on to the trip in Shenzhen, China.
เอาละคะ เตื้องจะพูดถึงตอนที่ไปเที่ยวเซินเจิ้นในเมืองจีนละนะคะ

First of all, I would have to say that it is very hard for me to pick an example of their mistakes (in China). Of course, it's not because they speak influential English. The problem is that they don't speak English at all. Well... I have tried to communicate, at least!
อย่างแรกเลยนะคะ เตื้องคงจะต้องบอกว่ามันยากมากกับการที่จะหยิบยกตัวอย่างข้อผิดพลาดมาพูดในเมืองจีน และแน่นอนคะ ไม่ใช่เพราะว่าพวกเค้าพูดภาษาได้ดีมากนะคะ ปัญหาก็คือว่าพวกเค้าไม่พูดภาษาอังกฤษกันคะ แต่ก็นะคะ... อย่างน้อยพวกเค้าก็พยายามสื่อสารกับเราคะ

I stayed in Shenzhen for only a few days. I remember one small mistake from a waitress  and I believe that many people make the same mistake regularly.
เตื้องอยู่ที่เซินเจิ้นแค่ 2-3 วันเองคะ ที่เตื้องจำได้ก็มีข้อผิดพลาดเล็กๆน้อยๆ และเชื่อว่าก็มีหลายๆคนที่ใช้ผิดกันเป็นเรื่องปกตินะคะ

I was trying to order CONGEE with PORK & CENTURY EGG but the waitress couldn't understand what I wanted. So, I pointed at the picture in the menu. Once she saw the one I wanted, she suddenly said  "Oh, pig!".
เตื้องก็พยายามที่จะสั่งโจ๊กหมูกับไข่เยี่ยวม้า แต่เด็กเสิร์ฟก็ไม่ค่อยจะเข้าใจสักเท่าไหร่ว่าเตื้องจะเอาอะไร เตื้องก็เลยไปชี้ที่รูปในเมนูซะเลย พอน้องเค้าเห็น เค้าก็ "อ๋อ หมูนี่เอง"


But... hold on! Which one is correct? PIG or PORK?
แต่เดี๋ยวก่อนนะคะ แล้วอันไหนถูกกันแน่น้อ PIG หรือ PORK 






PORK (n.) = The flesh of a pig or hog used as food
PORK (n.) = เนื้อหมูที่เอาไว้ทานเป็นอาหารนะคะ

PIG (n.) = A large pink, brown or black farm animal with short legs and a curved tail
PIG (n.) = สัตว์ในฟาร์มตัวใหญ่สีชมพู สีน้ำตาล สีดำ ขาสั้นๆ หางหงิกๆนะคะ หรือหมูตัวเป็นๆนี่แหละคะ

Special for Thais:
CONGEE (n.) = โจ๊ก
CENTURY EGG (n.) = ไข่เยี่ยวม้า
